Mia Francesca Trattoria Serves the Sauces of Mother Italy

Thursday, November 7th, 2013

Mia Francesca Trattoria, located in North Hills, Midtown Raleigh, offers several Northern Italian menu items that come with delightful sauces.  Our kitchen knows that sauces add a special flavor, moistness, and visual appeal to our savory dishes and desserts. Our homemade Italian sauces reflect the rich variety of our entrees, pizza and pasta dishes.

Mia Francesca Trattoria serves sensational sauces in the following ways:italian sauces

  • Dressing salads: Our Seasonal Autumn Salad has apple cider vinaigrette; our Panzanella Salad features red wine vinaigrette. Prosciutto e Melone comes with balsamic vinaigrette, and our Dinner Insalata has a wonderfully light lemon- based balsamic dressing.
  •  Dressing pasta dishes: Our homemade tomato basil sauce is a principal ingredient on our Penne and our Spaghetti and Linguini come with a pleasing Alfredo cream sauce.  Interestingly enough, Americans usually think of tomatoes with they think of Italian cuisine, the tomato plant is not native to Italy and using tomatoes in Italian cuisine did not become popular until the late 18th century!
  •  Dressing meats, fish, and vegetables: Our Mussels appetizer can be flavored with a spicy marinara sauce or garlic white wine sauce, our New York Strip comes with a Pancetta (bacon) mushroom marsala sauce, our Veal comes with a Fontina (cheese) cream sauce, and our Pollo Diavolo comes with a spicy Pomodoro (tomato) sauce.
  •  Enhancing the taste of desserts: Our Tiramisu has ladyfingers (soaked in espresso and kahlua) with lightly sweetened mascarpone cream and cocoa powder while our Profiteroles feature delicate toasted cream puffs filled with pistachio gelato and topped with chocolate sauce.

Remember Mia Francesca Trattoria is having their Traditional Thanksgiving Day Buffet from 10 a.m.to 5 p.m. on Thursday, November 28th.  We offer a delightful variety of sauces in our Thanksgiving Buffet selections.

Mia Francesca also features private dining areas for your holiday occasions, weddings, birthdays, and anniversaries.  Come to Mia Francesca for any occasion–and you will be so happy you enjoyed the experience.

Something Good is Always Brewing at Mia Francesca Trattoria

Wednesday, November 6th, 2013

Mia Francesca Trattoria is home to more than delicious Northern Italian fare in North Hills.  We also serve the best coffee in the Triangle. Italy is after all the home of some of the best coffee drinks in the world, and its history is an rich and interesting one. It begins centuries ago in TriesteItaly, the Adriatic port town where coffee first made its appearance on the European continent. And it was in Trieste back in 1933, when Francesco Illy developed the first modern espresso machine putting Italy on the map again. In fact, Mia Francesca is the only Midtown Raleigh home for fresh brewed Italian Illy brand coffeesThe Best Coffee in Raleigh

Classic Coffee is truly a legendary beverage prepared from the roasted seeds of several species of the Cofea evergreen shrub.  Once ripe, these flavorful “berries” are picked, processed, and dried. Depending upon the desired flavor, the seeds are roasted to varying degrees. We use the freshest of these beans to grind and brew into what we serve cup by cup every day at Mia Francesca.

The six most popular types of coffee we serve go with any meal and any celebration:

  • Espresso“expressing” or squeezing the flavor from the coffee using the pressure of the steam; espresso is the base for other drinks such as latte, cappuccino, macchiato, café mocha, and American coffee
  • Café Latte means “milk coffee” because “latte” is the Italian word for “milk”; a larger drink, with the same amount of espresso, but with more milk and some foam
  • Cappuccino—an Italian coffee drink traditionally prepared with espresso, hot milk, and steamed-milk foam
  • Espresso Macchiato—an espresso coffee drink with a small amount of milk added; macchiato means “marked” or “stained” in Italian; Caramel Macchiato—delicious caramel added to its already phenomenal flavoring
  • Mocha-cino like a caffè latte, it is based on espresso and hot milk, but with added chocolate—typically in the form of sweet cocoa powder, although many varieties use chocolate syrup; mochas can contain dark or milk chocolate
  • Americana a style of coffee prepared by adding hot water to espresso

At Mia Francesca, all our coffee is available in decaffeinated versions.  Find your perfect partnering from our superb dessert menu, while sipping on your deliciously fresh brew. And it is fun to know that the second most popular drink in the world, after water, is served so many ways Italian Style here in North Hills!

Since the early days of the Pilgrims, America has celebrated with great tasting food. Although we all know that the very first Pilgrim Thanksgiving took place over a number of days in the Plymouth Colony (in present-day Massachusetts) in 1621, it was not until the middle of the American Civil War in 1863, when President Abraham Lincoln declared it a national day to be celebrated each final Thursday in November. The U.S. Congress finally made Thanksgiving Day an official national holiday in 1941 just before Pearl Harbor.

Finally, there really is a Turkey, North Carolina.  Interestingly, the Tar Heel State is one of the leading states in turkey production with over 30 million turkeys produced each and every year.

It is a time for family and great food. It is the time for Mia Francesca! Make sure to make your reservations today for our yummy Thanksgiving Day Buffet!

It is after all, “gobble, gobble” time!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Celebrate Pasta Month with Mia Francesca Trattoria!

Thursday, October 17th, 2013

Mia Francesca Trattoria in Midtown Raleigh at North Hills prepares the finest pasta served Tuscany Italian style in the Triangle.  Just recently, our latest blog post discussed the history of pasta in Italy. But did you know that there are many interesting facts and even excellent nutritional benefits on that wonderful plate of gnocchi, spaghetti, linguine, ravioli, orzo and so many more.

All October, it is National Pasta Month!

Let’s dish out three great “bennies” and some unusual facts about the Triangle’s favorite food.

Excellent nutritional benefits include:Italian Restaurant North Raleigh

  • Pasta is an outstanding source of complex carbohydrates and it provides the optimum type of “fuel” to power your muscles and mind. Pasta digests more slowly and provides a slower release of energy to keep you going throughout your day. Pasta indeed is brain food!
  • Pasta is the ideal partner for other nutritious foods that are essential to a healthy diet such as fiber-filled vegetables and beans, heart healthy fish and oils, antioxidant-rich tomato sauce and protein-packed, poultry and lean meats.
  • Now, nutrition aside, pasta just plain tastes good and that could be the best benefit of all.

Little known facts on pasta:

  • The average person in Italy eats more than 51 pounds of pasta every year. We wonder what the above average person eats during the course of a year?
  • Americans, as a whole, consume 6 billion pounds of pasta each and every year; much of it at Mia Francesca!
  • According to the National Pasta Association (NPA), among the reasons cited for pasta’s popularity are its nutritional value, taste, convenience and economical value. We know the number one reason just has to be taste.
  • For individuals diagnosed with gluten sensitivity, our gluten-free pasta enables them to enjoy many of our pasta dishes guilt- free as a regular part of their diet.
  • According to the American Pasta Report, 40 percent of respondents state spaghetti as their most favorite pasta, followed by lasagna (12%), macaroni and cheese (6%), fettuccine (6%), linguine (3%), elbows (3%), pasta salad (3%), and angel hair (2%). We ask why meatballs did not make the list. We know they are related to spaghetti!

Mia Francesca invites you to come enjoy our delicious authentic Italian pasta any day of the week. .  Make reservations to enjoy our private dining for events such as wedding parties, business meetings, bar and bat mitzvahs as well as birthday or anniversary celebrations.  Enjoy our extensive list of pasta dishes on our catering menu.

Remember at Mia Francesca our pasta is truly “to dine” for any day of the week.
