The Vibrant Farmers’ Market and Great Italian Food Go Well Together

Market Pizza midtownfarmersmarketAt Mia Francesca Trattoria, we take pride in using only the freshest of ingredients from local farms for every single one of our Italian culinary presentations. It is with this spirit of community is mind that we encourage you to visit the thriving Midtown Farmers’ Market right here at North Hills every single weekend. This lively neighborhood market is open from now until November 1 (8 am to noon) at the Commons at North Hills. And we would love a visit to our authentic Northern Italian restaurant to enjoy the farm to table fresh food while visiting the market.

It is important to note that the market is open only to growers; the vendors at the Midtown Farmers’ Market must sell products and produce that they themselves have produced. This means that the vendors have great knowledge of what they have grown.

Our farm rich menu at Mia Francesca’s includes:

  • Asparagi Insalata—one of our superb Italian salads with asparagus, blue cheese, and tomato
  • Vegetable Panino—comes with grilled squash, fresh Portobello mushrooms, tomatoes, wild arugula, lemon ricotta, and ciabatta
  • Spinaci aglio e olio—fresh sautéed baby spinach, garlic, olive oil, and lemon
  • Spring Pizza—with fresh garlic, peas, asparagus, local pea shoots, mozzarella, and espellette

The Farmer’s Market provides our local and regional community with a wide array of interesting product:

  • With plentiful access to healthful food options including fresh fruits and vegetables, lean proteins, handmade canned goods free of preservatives
  • An opportunity to buy local, family-farmed foods from almost fifty vendors selling farm-fresh produce, meats, seafood, cheese, baked goods, and other specialty foods and crafts
  • Natural farm fresh foods grown to sustain our land and our health
  • Educational opportunities to learn about sustainable farming methods, the importance of family farmland and growing practices

In Italy, the domestic diet relies heavily on the richness of the Mediterranean Sea, which surrounds the entire peninsula. From the consumption of small fish along the shore to commercially organized fisheries in the larger markets of Milan and Rome, fish is one of the most important aspects of the Italian heritage. With this history in mind, Mia Francesca offers a superb variety of luscious seafood dishes.

Our specialties include succulent Shrimp e Piselli Risotto, which features fresh gulf shrimp with flavorful asparagus, lemon, garlic, basil, pea shoots, on a bed of Arborio rice. Our Sea Scallop Fagioli is offered with delicious pan seared sea scallops, white beans, fresh artichokes, baby spinach, balsamic, and saba. Our Striped Bass con Farro delights Triangle taste buds with pan seared striped bass, ancient grain faro, radiccio, spring onions, citrus, grilled lemon vinaigrette, and salsa verde.

In addition to our fresh shrimp, sea scallops, and bass, our Lobster Cappellacci brings to the table fresh Maine lobster filled with fresh pasta, spring peas, baby spinach, tarragon, and a rich lobster cream sauce. Finally, our incredible Salmon con Farro comes with flavorful grilled salmon, ancient grain faro, radiccio, spring onions, citrus, grilled lemon vinaigrette, and salsa verde.

6 Penne Pasta Dishes that are Perfetto!

Penne“Perfetto” means perfection in Italian, and nothing is truer for our patrons after they visit Mia Francesca Trattoria. Our authentic Tuscany Italian pasta gets always gets rave reviews from all of our guests. No fine Italian restaurant is ever complete without having an extensive pasta menu. And we offer many different kinds of delicious authentic Italian pasta, including the delicious penne dishes we serve here in North Hills, Midtown Raleigh.

Penne, given its practical design, is versatile pasta with a center and ridges that allow it to hold sauce;   Mia Francesca has several “perfetto” pasta dishes made with this wonderfully shaped penne pasta.

Here are six dishes from our gluten-free menu and all are tender and scrumptious!

  • Penne e Capesante: sea scallops, roasted baby artichokes, asparagus, white wine, spicy marinara on penne pasta
  • Penne alla Bolognese: beef, veal, pork, fresh herbs, tomato basil sauce, and Parmigiano Reggiano over penne pasta
  • Penne Aglio Olio: penne pasta sautéed with extra virgin olive oil, fresh garlic, diced tomatoes, and sautéed spinach
  • Penne al Pomodoro: penne pasta sautéed in a spicy cherry tomato sauce with garlic, olive oil, and fresh herbs
