In the Triangle, Italian Food and Fine Wine Make All the Difference

Monday, February 16th, 2015

http://www.dreamstime.com/royalty-free-stock-images-still-life-red-wine-barrels-image13184429Something magical happens when the perfect combination of flavors in wine highlight, enhance, and harmonize with the flavors of fine Italian food. Like a passionate couple in love, the pairing of the right wine and the right meal can bring both flavor and excitement to an evening out. Mia Francesca Trattoria, our Northern Italian restaurant located in Midtown Raleigh North Hills, suggests an array of wine pairings with many items found on our menu; from our savory chicken to our seasoned grilled fish and palate-pleasing pasta dishes.

Our Louis Jadot Pouilly Fuisse Chardonnay from Burgundy, France perfectly complements the following Mia Francesca Trattoria chicken entrees:

  • Pollo salsa Bianca: grilled chicken breast, garlic, white wine, Alfredo cream sauce, Parmigiano, and linguini pasta
  • Pollo Arrosto alla Romano: roasted chicken, white wine, garlic, chili flakes, rosemary herb roasted potatoes
  • Pollo Piccata: pan seared chicken breast, garlic, white wine, capers, lemon, linguini aglio e Olio

Mia Francesca features two Pinot Grigio Italian bottled wines from Veneto. Our Le Macine and Ca’ Stella pair splendidly with our two delectable grilled fish entrees:

  • NC Trout: grilled North Carolina trout, cauliflower puree, tri-color cauliflower, golden raisins, baby spinach, and aged balsamic
  • Salmon Caponata: grilled salmon with farm fresh winter vegetables, eggplant, capers, fennel, olive oil, balsamic, and tomato

Both our St. Francis Old Vine Zinfandel from Sonoma, California and our Castella Sinnino Chianti Riserva pair well with the following pasta dishes:

  • Classic Spaghetti and Meatballs in a tasty tomato basil sauce
  • Penne Pastore: fennel sausage, sundried tomatoes, goat cheese, and tomato basil sauce over our penne pasta
  • Pollo al Parmesan features breaded chicken breasts, tomato basil sauce, mozzarella, parmesan, and Linguini agli e olio

Remember, pairing and weight go hand-in-hand; lighter wines with lighter fare, robust wines with robust fare, and so on. It is important to look for a wine with flavor and aroma characteristics that invoke the traditions and taste of our Tuscany Italian entrées. Mia Francesca has an expansive fine wine list to consider and our Tuscany Italian fare partners very nicely with our selections. Try our Meat and Cheese Board with our Executive Chef’s selections of artisan cheese and charcuterie (fine meats), olives, fruit jam, and ciabatta crostini.

Pairing wine with fine food is an art. And it is very important to remember that life is always better with great taste and company.

Mangiamo! Let’s eat, drink and be merry!

Let’s Celebrate California Wine Month in the Triangle

Tuesday, September 2nd, 2014

PrintWith the relaxing Labor Day weekend behind all of us, it is time to shift gears and find something new to celebrate that will be longer than just three days. We at Mia Francesca have great news for wine lovers in the Triangle. September is the tenth anniversary of California Wine Month. At Mia Francesca Trattoria, we are proud of our fabulous U.S.A. home grown wine list, which includes a superb selection of wines from the Golden State of California.

With more than 100 varieties of grapes home grown in California, there are almost 4000 local wineries located as far north as the Oregon border and as far south as San Diego covering more than 700 miles of vineyard country. It is interesting to note that if California was its own country, it would be the fourth largest wine producer in the world.

California grapes have been produced for almost 250 years, combining art, tradition, innovation and wonderful flavor. These sun-soaked vineyards account for nearly ninety percent of the American wine production. California’s sustainable wine growing and wine making practices preserve the lands for future generations and contribute to the highest wine quality available. Mia Francesca Trattoria in North Hills Midtown Raleigh, offers California wines from Sonoma, the Central Coast, Napa Valley and Santa Barbara.

Here are four wines that we proudly serve from the famous Napa Valley of California’s North Coast:

  • Cabernet Sauvignon Vellum 2009: with tastes of currant, blueberry, pepper, and oak, medium body, nice lingering finish
  • Cabernet Sauvignon Newton 2009: red and black cherry and currant on the nose and palate; good minerality, acidity; medium body, intensity
  • Stags’ Leap Petite Sirah 2009:  fruit, floral and spicy characteristics, backed by refined tannins and balancing acidity, bold yet restrained, velvety
  • Pine Ridge Chenin Viognier 2012: crisp, light, fruity, nice texture, medium palate, clean finish

These full-bodied wines pair very well with our wonderful Bruschetta alla Romana: fresh garlic toast and marinated tomatoes with rich mozzarella and olive oil. Enjoy them with our Heirloom Tomato-Pesto Pizza as well. For a true Tuscany Italian experience, no wine goes better with our locally famous and ever popular Spaghetti and Meatballs experience. Finally, our Filetto con Spugnola is one of our center stage entrées and can be paired very nicely with California Carbernet: this dish features deliciously grilled beef tenderloin, morel mushrooms, spring onions, potatoes, and grilled asparagus with herb butter.

Whether you are in the mood for the finest of wines or one our expertly made libations, every guest will certainly enjoy gourmet and authentic Italian cuisine. Make your reservations for a dining experience to remember fondly with every visit.
