The Freshest Fish in the Triangle Prepared the Italian Way

Monday, June 9th, 2014

http://www.dreamstime.com/stock-photos-vintage-fresh-fish-seafood-stamps-image25036883Where can the most die-hard food lover here in North Carolina find the freshest fish? At Mia Francesca Trattoria, we pride ourselves in serving only the freshest of fare. Our produce is farm-to-table garden-crisp and our fish is dock-to-dish fresh! We are the largest restaurant in Midtown Raleigh at North Hills and our sources supply us with the best fish, meat, vegetables and dairy products.

Did you realize that eating fish is very healthy for you? It is an excellent source of high-quality protein, vitamins and minerals (including potassium, selenium and vitamin B12). The abundant content of omega-3 fatty acids in fish receives the most attention by doctors and the press. It is good to know that the fish we serve at Mia Francesca is not only fresh and delicious, but nutritious as well!

Our fish dishes are always extremely popular and our guests enjoy our healthy entrees that both taste and look good. Our Salmon con Farro is grilled salmon, ancient grain farro, radiccio, spring onions, citrus, grilled lemon vinaigrette, and salsa verde. Our Striped Bass con Farro, is pan seared striped bass that we serve with ancient grain faro, radiccio, spring onions, citrus, grilled lemon vinaigrette, and salsa verde. Our Salmon Asparagi con Granchi features grilled salmon, blue crab, wild mushrooms, fresh asparagus, sun dried tomatoes, white wine, garlic, lemon and balsamic; it is the best of blend of fish and veggies.

Our wine list is extensive and we recommend pairing a rose wine with your salmon. The dry, mineral driven character and typically acute acidity in rose wines make for an exceptionally accommodating salmon pairing partner.

Our Syrah wine collection has some delightful rose wine bottles:

  • Dog Ridge “The Pup” McLaren Vale, Australia
  • Wakefield Estate, 2009, Clare Valley, Australia
  • Casa Rivas Gran Reserva, 2009, Argentina

We get our fish fresh from the local markets. Guests can relax and enjoy warm conversations with family and friends while our award-winning kitchen does an amazing job preparing these delectable entrees. Be assured that everyone who visits Mia Francesca in North Hills Midtown Raleigh can expect nothing less than the freshest of fish with every culinary experience. Make reservations today as we reel in your glorious meal!

The Vibrant Farmers’ Market and Great Italian Food Go Well Together

Monday, May 19th, 2014

Market Pizza midtownfarmersmarketAt Mia Francesca Trattoria, we take pride in using only the freshest of ingredients from local farms for every single one of our Italian culinary presentations. It is with this spirit of community is mind that we encourage you to visit the thriving Midtown Farmers’ Market right here at North Hills every single weekend. This lively neighborhood market is open from now until November 1 (8 am to noon) at the Commons at North Hills. And we would love a visit to our authentic Northern Italian restaurant to enjoy the farm to table fresh food while visiting the market.

It is important to note that the market is open only to growers; the vendors at the Midtown Farmers’ Market must sell products and produce that they themselves have produced. This means that the vendors have great knowledge of what they have grown.

Our farm rich menu at Mia Francesca’s includes:

  • Asparagi Insalata—one of our superb Italian salads with asparagus, blue cheese, and tomato
  • Vegetable Panino—comes with grilled squash, fresh Portobello mushrooms, tomatoes, wild arugula, lemon ricotta, and ciabatta
  • Spinaci aglio e olio—fresh sautéed baby spinach, garlic, olive oil, and lemon
  • Spring Pizza—with fresh garlic, peas, asparagus, local pea shoots, mozzarella, and espellette

The Farmer’s Market provides our local and regional community with a wide array of interesting product:

  • With plentiful access to healthful food options including fresh fruits and vegetables, lean proteins, handmade canned goods free of preservatives
  • An opportunity to buy local, family-farmed foods from almost fifty vendors selling farm-fresh produce, meats, seafood, cheese, baked goods, and other specialty foods and crafts
  • Natural farm fresh foods grown to sustain our land and our health
  • Educational opportunities to learn about sustainable farming methods, the importance of family farmland and growing practices

It is not unusual to see Chef Zack and other kitchen staff walking through the market looking for lunch and dinner ingredients. Come visit Mia Francesca and be assured the freshest is always at your service.

The Triangle’s Ultimate Italian Seafood Experience

Monday, May 12th, 2014

Mia-Francesca-Raleigh-Pan-Seared-ScallopsPeople who dine at Mia Francesca Trattoria agree that we serve only the best authentic Northern Italian cuisine in the Triangle. That is why so many people enjoy coming back to our restaurant again and again. We are located a short distance from everywhere in the Triangle at North Hills Midtown Raleigh; the area is filled with terrific shopping, specialty shoppes, boutiques, fitness centers, and movie theaters. While many North Carolinians think pizza and pasta when they think Italian food, some might be surprised to know that we are famous for our fresh seafood as well.

In Italy, the domestic diet relies heavily on the richness of the Mediterranean Sea, which surrounds the entire peninsula. From the consumption of small fish along the shore to commercially organized fisheries in the larger markets of Milan and Rome, fish is one of the most important aspects of the Italian heritage. With this history in mind, Mia Francesca offers a superb variety of luscious seafood dishes.

Our specialties include succulent Shrimp e Piselli Risotto, which features fresh gulf shrimp with flavorful asparagus, lemon, garlic, basil, pea shoots, on a bed of Arborio rice. Our Sea Scallop Fagioli is offered with delicious pan seared sea scallops, white beans, fresh artichokes, baby spinach, balsamic, and saba. Our Striped Bass con Farro delights Triangle taste buds with pan seared striped bass, ancient grain faro, radiccio, spring onions, citrus, grilled lemon vinaigrette, and salsa verde.

In addition to our fresh shrimp, sea scallops, and bass, our Lobster Cappellacci brings to the table fresh Maine lobster filled with fresh pasta, spring peas, baby spinach, tarragon, and a rich lobster cream sauce. Finally, our incredible Salmon con Farro comes with flavorful grilled salmon, ancient grain faro, radiccio, spring onions, citrus, grilled lemon vinaigrette, and salsa verde.

Be ready to save room for one of our Italian heritage desserts! We welcome first time guests to North Hills and just know the experience will make Mia Francesca a regular experience in the future.

Pastas, Sauces, and Wines at Mia Francesca Trattoria in North Hills

Wednesday, March 19th, 2014

MF DessertMF WineMarch is National Sauce Month and we are ready for everyone across the Triangle to enjoy the very best in Northern Italian sauces and marinades. Our award winning kitchen staff at Mia Francesca Trattoria always adds just the right sauces to our delicious farm to table lunch and dinner entrees. These sauces enhance the flavor of our fine foods and they blend perfectly with the meal to the delight of all our guests. For Tuscany Italian, sauces can truly define fresh food and are essential to our daily menu.  Everything from our finest homemade tomato sauce to our delicious marinades, we are noted for defining all of our sauces in very unique ways.

Let’s look at two of our special pasta dishes, each with distinctive sauces, and Justin Harkey, our General Manager, will recommend a wine that complements each one. Sauces play an important role in deciding the perfect wine pairing.

First, our very popular Spaghetti alla Bolognese features beef, veal, and pork as well as fresh herbs, tomato basil sauce, and Parmigiano Reggiano.  Red sauces always pair well with red wines.  We recommend our Cabernet Sauvignon, named after both the special grape and the wine it produces.  The primary taste of this excellent wine is a flavorful black current, but other overtones may include blackberry and mint.  Since Cabernets are very hearty and rich, this means they go best with our tomato-based sauces.  Mia Francesca Trattoria has four superb Cabernet Sauvignon wine selections for you to choose from every day.

Second, our delicious Pollo salsa Bianca features a farm-fresh grilled chicken breast, garlic, white wine, Alfredo cream sauce, Parmigiano, and linguini pasta. Pinot Grigio is a leaner style Italian white wine that pairs well with our cream sauces.  It has a smooth, almost silk-like flavor that leaves a wonderful impression with the most particular of connoisseurs. Mia Francesca offers two Pinot Grigio selections, both produced in the vineyards of Veneto, Italy: La Macine and Ca’ Stella.

Complete your dining experience with our chocolate sauce-covered dessert choice. Our guests love our Profiteroles, delicately toasted cream puffs filled with pistachio gelato.  They are drizzled with yummy chocolate sauce on top.  At Mia Francesca Trattoria, our pasta, sauce, and wine are just divine with or without our wonderful desserts.

Take advantage of the last two weeks in March to explore our entrees, the various sauces and their individual flavors with each visit. You find our eatery in Midtown-Raleigh at North Hills along with great shopping boutiques and more; in one of the best areas in the Triangle to stop, visit, eat and shop.

As anyone knows as they visit our restaurant, Midtown Raleigh offers the best of everything right here in North Hills. We ask that you drop by the North Hills Guest Services (also the Coldwell Banker HPW sales office), between Comfortable Soles and Varsity Men’s Wear, and get your North Hills Gift Card today. You can use it at almost any North Hills store, restaurant or salon including Mia Francesca Trattoria. Available in denominations up to $500, these gifts are perfect for any occasion.
