A First Time Visit to Midtown Raleigh Means Great Times

Sunday, March 1st, 2015

Calimari editedMia Francesca Trattoria insideIt is March! Spring is coming to the Triangle. Believe it or not the warmer weather will give us the opportunity to create new memories and catch up with family and friends we have not seen over the winter. With warm thoughts, we invite everyone who have never visited Midtown Raleigh to visit Mia Francesca in in North Hills for a leisurely lunch, dinner or weekend brunch.

The Capital City will soon be bustling with outdoor and warm weather activities. In North Hills, where Mia Francesca is located; there is a movie theater, various boutiques and shops, fitness centers, a Farmer’s Market and all come with plenty of parking.

Mia Francesca Trattoria, a Tuscany Italian restaurant, is right next to the luxurious Renaissance Hotel in the heart of the North Hills Mall complex. Our Northern Italian restaurant is a growing favorite among Triangle residents and is a big part of the family of Chicago based Italian eateries known for their hearty fresh farm to table cooking, large portions, and affordable prices. With a casually contemporary setting, and rustic environment, Mia Francesca offers good times and simple great food.

On a first visit, as the twin doors open wide into the restaurant lobby, our guests are greeted with warm smiles by our friendly and upbeat staff. Guests can choose their own seating, with our expansive outdoor area, the large dining room, upstairs on the second floor with an overhanging nook and a great view, or in our comfortable bar area. We offer plenty of choices for relaxation.

After settling in, it’s the perfect time to select a top shelf wine from Mia Francesca’s extensive European and American wine list with offerings from France, Italy and California. We also offer Monday through Friday drink specials as well. Our beer selection includes Italy’s own, Peroni Lager, among many other micro and macro brews.

Our personable and experienced award winning Iron Chef, Zach VanGaasbeek, and his culinary team prepare house made salads with asparagus, blue cheese and fresh tomatoes among other fresh ingredients. Our “from scratch” pizzas with fresh imported and domestic cheeses and herbs, are perfect for an informal gathering of people who want to leave satisfied.

Our eclectic, ever changing, all house made menu includes crowd favorites like our tasty Polo Arrosto alla Roamo (Mar-Jac Farm roasted chicken) and Spaghetti alla Bolognese, as well as the best Calamari fritti this side of San Francesco. Our fresh desserts offer the best of Italy with Tiramisu, our Pumpkin Spice Cheesecake, and Apple Crostata.

After experiencing Tuscany Italian cuisine at its finest, and enjoying the warm and friendly ambiance of Mia Francesca in North Hills, our first time guests always tell friends and family and share the news of the very best of Italy right here in the Triangle. It is an important reason to come back to North Raleigh again and again. And after just one visit, our guests know they have enjoyed Mia Francesca in Midtown Raleigh, the very best of dining experiences.

After a hard day’s work or over a busy weekend, when the Triangle wants the best value and the best food and drink, make it a Northern Italian experience. There is always a good time to enjoy a great meal. The upcoming spring means there is a lot to celebrate with the new season.

Celebrate spring at Mia Francesca Trattoria in North Hills, Midtown Raleigh!

In the Triangle, Italian Food and Fine Wine Make All the Difference

Monday, February 16th, 2015

http://www.dreamstime.com/royalty-free-stock-images-still-life-red-wine-barrels-image13184429Something magical happens when the perfect combination of flavors in wine highlight, enhance, and harmonize with the flavors of fine Italian food. Like a passionate couple in love, the pairing of the right wine and the right meal can bring both flavor and excitement to an evening out. Mia Francesca Trattoria, our Northern Italian restaurant located in Midtown Raleigh North Hills, suggests an array of wine pairings with many items found on our menu; from our savory chicken to our seasoned grilled fish and palate-pleasing pasta dishes.

Our Louis Jadot Pouilly Fuisse Chardonnay from Burgundy, France perfectly complements the following Mia Francesca Trattoria chicken entrees:

  • Pollo salsa Bianca: grilled chicken breast, garlic, white wine, Alfredo cream sauce, Parmigiano, and linguini pasta
  • Pollo Arrosto alla Romano: roasted chicken, white wine, garlic, chili flakes, rosemary herb roasted potatoes
  • Pollo Piccata: pan seared chicken breast, garlic, white wine, capers, lemon, linguini aglio e Olio

Mia Francesca features two Pinot Grigio Italian bottled wines from Veneto. Our Le Macine and Ca’ Stella pair splendidly with our two delectable grilled fish entrees:

  • NC Trout: grilled North Carolina trout, cauliflower puree, tri-color cauliflower, golden raisins, baby spinach, and aged balsamic
  • Salmon Caponata: grilled salmon with farm fresh winter vegetables, eggplant, capers, fennel, olive oil, balsamic, and tomato

Both our St. Francis Old Vine Zinfandel from Sonoma, California and our Castella Sinnino Chianti Riserva pair well with the following pasta dishes:

  • Classic Spaghetti and Meatballs in a tasty tomato basil sauce
  • Penne Pastore: fennel sausage, sundried tomatoes, goat cheese, and tomato basil sauce over our penne pasta
  • Pollo al Parmesan features breaded chicken breasts, tomato basil sauce, mozzarella, parmesan, and Linguini agli e olio

Remember, pairing and weight go hand-in-hand; lighter wines with lighter fare, robust wines with robust fare, and so on. It is important to look for a wine with flavor and aroma characteristics that invoke the traditions and taste of our Tuscany Italian entrées. Mia Francesca has an expansive fine wine list to consider and our Tuscany Italian fare partners very nicely with our selections. Try our Meat and Cheese Board with our Executive Chef’s selections of artisan cheese and charcuterie (fine meats), olives, fruit jam, and ciabatta crostini.

Pairing wine with fine food is an art. And it is very important to remember that life is always better with great taste and company.

Mangiamo! Let’s eat, drink and be merry!

The Reviews are in from the Raleigh Trip Advisor

Monday, December 1st, 2014

Mia Francesca profiterolesMia Francesca asparagusMia Francesca Trattoria, located at North Hills in Midtown Raleigh, would like to highlight a recent Trip Advisor review from Senior Reviewer Dave K from Raleigh. Dave titled his review, Fresh and high quality ingredients with excellent preparation.” As a participating restaurant in the Got to Be NC agriculture program, Mia Francesca offers the freshest of ingredients. We indeed are a farm fresh to table restaurant that everyone loves and enjoys.

“For starters, don’t overlook the salads. The lentils with goat cheese and the fresh asparagus are excellent.” Dave loves the Lentils and Spinaci, which feature warm lentils with spinach and goat cheese, as well as our Asparagi Insalata with fresh asparagus, blue cheese, and tomato. “For appetizers, the calamari is a very nice portion with tasty sauces.” Dave enjoys our very popular Calamari Fritti, which is lightly fried in a spicy marinara sauce.

“For pasta… the Spaghetti Bolognese might be standard fare for many, however, Mia Francesca kicks it up with pulled pork. It is very smooth and tasty: a winner every time.” Dave knows our North Carolina inspired Spaghetti alla Bolognese is loaded with beef, veal, pork, fresh herbs, and tomato basil sauce topped with Parmigiano Reggiano.

“If you have any room left, the profiteroles are outstanding with pistachio gelato. You won’t find this in many places in Raleigh.” Our Profiteroles are delicate cream puffs toasted and filled with pistachio gelato and topped with a divinely homemade chocolate sauce. This is one of just many decadent choices from our Dessert (Dolci) menu.

“For beverages, if you are a wine drinker, try the…Pinot Grigio.” By the glass, two excellent Pinot Grigio options are Le Macine and Ca’ Stella Veneto. By the bottle, two very popular Pinot Grigio choices this time of year are Dantello and Baroncini Veneto.

Thank you, Dave K, for letting us share your review and recommendation with our blog post audience. It is the holiday season and we bring North Carolina and Tuscany Region in Central Italy together for you each and every day!

Remember it is the holiday season and Mia Francesca Trattoria can host your office party, dinner party or holiday get together. Call us today and make your reservation.

4 Ways Fresh North Carolina Heirloom Tomatoes are Served Italian Style

Monday, August 18th, 2014

???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????Back in the 1500’s, Italians started growing tomatoes for their raw and natural beauty. Typically found in flower beds in their earliest history, there are several delicious varieties grown today, all known for their intense flavor and each one carrying interesting names such as the Italian Pear and the Pantanara. Here in North Carolina, our delicious garden grown tomatoes are just as tasty and superb as their cousins in Italy.

As everyone knows in the Triangle, Mia Francesca Trattoria selects only the freshest of ingredients for every one of our entrees, appetizers and desserts. Here in August as we approach the Labor Day weekend, we offer four late summer menu choices that feature our North Carolina grown farm fresh heirloom tomatoes.

Our Northern Italian restaurant, nestled in the very popular North Hills section of Midtown Raleigh, is very easy to locate and visit. We pride ourselves for our culinary excellence as one of the best Tuscany Italian restaurants in the Triangle. We are also very proud members of the Got to Be NC Agriculture Program. As members of the prestigious program, we support our local North Carolina growers and deliver that promise of farm to table freshness to each and every guest.

Here are four summer themed entrees sure to make everyone smile and enjoy:

  • Our Insalata Panzanella is tastefully showcased with juicy heirloom tomatoes, along with red onion, arugula, herbed croutons, red wine vinaigrette, basil, fresh mozzarella, and aged balsamic. Our guests love this classically natural Italian salad.
  • Our Halibut Panzanella features pan seared halibut, heirloom tomatoes, red onions, herbed croutons, arugula, red wine vinaigrette, basil, and Saba. This is another palate pleasing Mia Francesca Trattoria meal surrounded with fresh tomatoes.
  • Our Heirloom Tomato-Pesto Pizza is an authentic Italian pizza with local farm fresh tomatoes, basil pesto, garlic, oregano, Parmigiano, olive oil, and sea salt. It is interesting to note that Pesto is a definitive Italian sauce that originated from Genoa in the Liguria region of Northern Italy.
  • Our Heirloom Tomato Panino presents Italian ciabatta bread cut horizontally and filled with fresh local heirloom tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, applewood smoked bacon seasoned with basil, olive oil, sea salt, and lemon aioli. Our guests really enjoy our satisfyingly earthy Italian Panini.

We recommend pairing any of our tomato-themed selections with a Pinot Grigio Italian wine. We offer Le Macine or Ca’ Stella, both complementary wine choices come from Veneto, Italy. Make your reservations today to enjoy our farm fresh heirloom tomatoes in one of these divine dishes at Mia Francesca Trattoria.

From all of us to all of you: “Molto delizioso” in Italian means “very delicious”! Stop in and find out why our guests love Mia Francesca!

Pastas, Sauces, and Wines at Mia Francesca Trattoria in North Hills

Wednesday, March 19th, 2014

MF DessertMF WineMarch is National Sauce Month and we are ready for everyone across the Triangle to enjoy the very best in Northern Italian sauces and marinades. Our award winning kitchen staff at Mia Francesca Trattoria always adds just the right sauces to our delicious farm to table lunch and dinner entrees. These sauces enhance the flavor of our fine foods and they blend perfectly with the meal to the delight of all our guests. For Tuscany Italian, sauces can truly define fresh food and are essential to our daily menu.  Everything from our finest homemade tomato sauce to our delicious marinades, we are noted for defining all of our sauces in very unique ways.

Let’s look at two of our special pasta dishes, each with distinctive sauces, and Justin Harkey, our General Manager, will recommend a wine that complements each one. Sauces play an important role in deciding the perfect wine pairing.

First, our very popular Spaghetti alla Bolognese features beef, veal, and pork as well as fresh herbs, tomato basil sauce, and Parmigiano Reggiano.  Red sauces always pair well with red wines.  We recommend our Cabernet Sauvignon, named after both the special grape and the wine it produces.  The primary taste of this excellent wine is a flavorful black current, but other overtones may include blackberry and mint.  Since Cabernets are very hearty and rich, this means they go best with our tomato-based sauces.  Mia Francesca Trattoria has four superb Cabernet Sauvignon wine selections for you to choose from every day.

Second, our delicious Pollo salsa Bianca features a farm-fresh grilled chicken breast, garlic, white wine, Alfredo cream sauce, Parmigiano, and linguini pasta. Pinot Grigio is a leaner style Italian white wine that pairs well with our cream sauces.  It has a smooth, almost silk-like flavor that leaves a wonderful impression with the most particular of connoisseurs. Mia Francesca offers two Pinot Grigio selections, both produced in the vineyards of Veneto, Italy: La Macine and Ca’ Stella.

Complete your dining experience with our chocolate sauce-covered dessert choice. Our guests love our Profiteroles, delicately toasted cream puffs filled with pistachio gelato.  They are drizzled with yummy chocolate sauce on top.  At Mia Francesca Trattoria, our pasta, sauce, and wine are just divine with or without our wonderful desserts.

Take advantage of the last two weeks in March to explore our entrees, the various sauces and their individual flavors with each visit. You find our eatery in Midtown-Raleigh at North Hills along with great shopping boutiques and more; in one of the best areas in the Triangle to stop, visit, eat and shop.

As anyone knows as they visit our restaurant, Midtown Raleigh offers the best of everything right here in North Hills. We ask that you drop by the North Hills Guest Services (also the Coldwell Banker HPW sales office), between Comfortable Soles and Varsity Men’s Wear, and get your North Hills Gift Card today. You can use it at almost any North Hills store, restaurant or salon including Mia Francesca Trattoria. Available in denominations up to $500, these gifts are perfect for any occasion.

Italian White Wine Varietals Presented By Mia Francesca Trattoria

Monday, September 30th, 2013

Come to Mia Francesca Trattoria, located in Raleigh at North Hills, for the best authentic Italian cuisine.  We launched our Italian wine series recently with a brief history of winemaking and since followed it  by discussing the famous  Italian wine regions.  Last week we posted our most recent article on red wine varietals and this week we offer a review of Italian white wines from Mia Francesca’s wine list.

Although Italy is better known for its wonderful array of red wines, Italy’s white wines, especially Pinot Grigio, are very pleasant when compared to France, Germany, and Northern California. Tuscany, where our culinary roots come from, offers a very flavorful array of excellent white wines. The rich and sweet flavor of native Italian white grapes bring pleasure to the tables at Mia Francesca Trattoria and they go extremely well with our light seafood dishes, fresh salmon, and delicious desserts. Italian wine and our locally fresh food pairings make our dining experience a unique one. Of course, the finest Italian white wine is good all by itself, poured into a tall glass and savored with friends and family.

White Wine Varietals of Italy

Here are six excellent examples of white wines in the Italian White Wine Selection:

  • Chardonnay—described as the “king of white wines”; Chardonnay is easy-to-grow, versatile, and is planted throughout Italian White Wine Varietals Italy. It is also an important component of Champagne.
  • Pinot Grigio—comes from a large wine producing region in Northeastern Italy; grapes can vary widely in color from silvery blue to grayish violet to ashen yellow; when produced the wines are white to slightly pink in color; the taste is crisp, light, and dry.
  • Riesling—considered to be one of the world’s greatest white wine grapes; a balance of good acid and high sugar levels produces wines with considerable aging potential; taste is delicate, but complex as well as spicy, but fruity in flavor; a long finish.
  • Grechetto—grown in Italy’s Umbria region, delightfully rich and nutty in character.
  • Soave—Italy’s most popular dry white wine, located in the Western part of Italy’s Veneto area (east of Verona and around the town of Soave.)
  • Arneis—a white wine grape that originated and is primarily grown in the Roero hills of Italy’s Southern Piedmont; once nearly extinct, it has made a good comeback in recent years; it can produce very good wines with the fragrant characteristics of apples, pears, and a hint of licorice.

Remember our pairing principles include delicious foods and wonderful wines for our special guests. Our Monday wine specials make the start of the week as enjoyable as one can get with 50% off all wines from 11:30 a.m. until 11:00 p.m.

Mia Francesca Trattoria offers private dining options as well as quality catering in the Raleigh area.  Either way, you taste incredible authentic Italian cuisine while you make memories with family and friends.

**Make Mia Francesca in North Hills a part of your weekend memories, your Autumn gatherings, and your business meetings and networking events.
