North Raleigh Italian Restaurant

The Tuscany region of Italy, and the wonderful city of Florence are both known as historic centers for the arts, the old world influence, and the Italian Renaissance; yet it is the special wines and the delicious food that bring millions of visitors to Tuscany each and every year.

Experience the tastes and passion of authentic Tuscany cuisine right here in Triangle, without ever buying that plane ticket and heading to Italy on vacation. Mia Francesca Trattoria, in North Hills Midtown Raleigh, invites everyone to enjoy our own unique cultural and culinary delights as they dine with us. Our professional trained chefs, and the  authentic food we prepare fresh each and every day, will ensure a unique epicurean experience for every guest. In addition to our flavorful entrees and appetizers, the gathering of friends, family, and business associates is always a great idea; unwind and enjoy a glass of wine from our selective list.

The Italian wine industry, especially in the northwest regions of Italy, has experienced an exhilarating revival over the past years that truly set it apart from other wine producing nations.  In fact, each year, one in fifty Italians is involved with the grape harvest and wine production.  Italy continues to produce some of the best wines found anywhere.

The Tuscany Region has always been one of the finest wine producing areas in both Italy and the world.  The Tuscany growers are among the most modernized in the world.  The popular wines produced here include: Chianti, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, Morellino di Scansano and Brunello di Montalcino.

Mia Francesca Trattoria offers the finest Italian red and white wines that come from this elite Italian wine region that is known for both rarity and quality.

Here are four additional classic Italian wines we serve:

  • Le Macine: dry, medium-bodied, crisp acidity; a traditional Italian Pinot Grigio with fresh scents of peach and flowers
  • Ca’ Stella:   light, crisp, and dry; complemented by an aroma of lemon, green apple and blossoms
  • Baroncini Vernaccia::pleasant acidity, slightly salty; scent of green apples and lemon
  • Santa Sofia Soave: dry, crisp, fruity white wine; refreshing appeal

The Italian proverb, “Amico e vino vogliono essere vecchi” literally translates to “Friends and wine they want to be old.”  This proverb means that old friends, like old wine, are best!  When dining at Mia Francesca Trattoria, everyone will agree that we serve the best Italian wine and cuisine— Bon Appétit!

Pastas, Sauces, and Wines at Mia Francesca Trattoria in North Hills

Wednesday, March 19th, 2014

MF DessertMF WineMarch is National Sauce Month and we are ready for everyone across the Triangle to enjoy the very best in Northern Italian sauces and marinades. Our award winning kitchen staff at Mia Francesca Trattoria always adds just the right sauces to our delicious farm to table lunch and dinner entrees. These sauces enhance the flavor of our fine foods and they blend perfectly with the meal to the delight of all our guests. For Tuscany Italian, sauces can truly define fresh food and are essential to our daily menu.  Everything from our finest homemade tomato sauce to our delicious marinades, we are noted for defining all of our sauces in very unique ways.

Let’s look at two of our special pasta dishes, each with distinctive sauces, and Justin Harkey, our General Manager, will recommend a wine that complements each one. Sauces play an important role in deciding the perfect wine pairing.

First, our very popular Spaghetti alla Bolognese features beef, veal, and pork as well as fresh herbs, tomato basil sauce, and Parmigiano Reggiano.  Red sauces always pair well with red wines.  We recommend our Cabernet Sauvignon, named after both the special grape and the wine it produces.  The primary taste of this excellent wine is a flavorful black current, but other overtones may include blackberry and mint.  Since Cabernets are very hearty and rich, this means they go best with our tomato-based sauces.  Mia Francesca Trattoria has four superb Cabernet Sauvignon wine selections for you to choose from every day.

Second, our delicious Pollo salsa Bianca features a farm-fresh grilled chicken breast, garlic, white wine, Alfredo cream sauce, Parmigiano, and linguini pasta. Pinot Grigio is a leaner style Italian white wine that pairs well with our cream sauces.  It has a smooth, almost silk-like flavor that leaves a wonderful impression with the most particular of connoisseurs. Mia Francesca offers two Pinot Grigio selections, both produced in the vineyards of Veneto, Italy: La Macine and Ca’ Stella.

Complete your dining experience with our chocolate sauce-covered dessert choice. Our guests love our Profiteroles, delicately toasted cream puffs filled with pistachio gelato.  They are drizzled with yummy chocolate sauce on top.  At Mia Francesca Trattoria, our pasta, sauce, and wine are just divine with or without our wonderful desserts.

Take advantage of the last two weeks in March to explore our entrees, the various sauces and their individual flavors with each visit. You find our eatery in Midtown-Raleigh at North Hills along with great shopping boutiques and more; in one of the best areas in the Triangle to stop, visit, eat and shop.

As anyone knows as they visit our restaurant, Midtown Raleigh offers the best of everything right here in North Hills. We ask that you drop by the North Hills Guest Services (also the Coldwell Banker HPW sales office), between Comfortable Soles and Varsity Men’s Wear, and get your North Hills Gift Card today. Fun, Family and Gelato at Mia Francesca in North Hills

Wednesday, January 15th, 2014

rome negli anna cinquanta a monte carotto wikemedia.orgEveryone in the Triangle knows that there are a wide variety of kid-friendly places here in Raleigh area. Each restaurant typically offers quick food, tokens, crayons, and a fast experience. Here in North Hills, we want each family member dining with us to enjoy great Northern Italian food, great service and a simple family focus that welcomes children at every table. We know that each and every day, the main ingredient at Mia Francesca in North Hills is always you!

Children who dine with us love our awesome choices on the Kid’s Menu, which features our authentic Italian pasta, our “made from scratch” pizza, and our deliciously tender chicken.

If the kids like savory pasta and what youngster does not, Mia Francesca prepares it one of three tasty ways; and it’s always their choice. They just pick a wonderful flavor like rich butter, homemade tomato sauce, or subtle cream sauce and then sit back, twirl the fork and love it. If they are in the mood for pizza, each child can have a special and unique pie with cheese, mushrooms, or sausage.  Our moist and delicious chicken is always a huge favorite and comes with the choice of either fries or broccoli. Every kid’s meal arrives at tableside with the choice of a soft drink, milk, or juice.

Finally every child finishes their meal with a free scoop of gelato.  Gelato, as many know, is the Italian word for “ice cream”.  We offer special varieties of this wonderful treat made in authentic Mia Francesca style; very unique and traditionally Italian. Our gelato consists of milk, cream, various sugars, and flavoring usually blended with our fresh fruit and nut purees.

It is kid trivia time! The Florentine cook, Bernardo Buontalenti, is said to have invented modern ice cream in 1565, as he presented his recipe and his innovative refrigerating techniques to Catherine de’ Medici, an Italian Duchess who then introduced it to France after she married the French King, Henry II. Soon the news and tastes of gelato spread to the rest of Europe.

It is very interesting to note that the popularity of gelato increased in the 1920’s and 1930’s in the northern Italian city of Varese, where the very first gelato cart was pushed down cobble stone streets.  The popularity of Mia Francesca’s version of the famous gelato in Raleigh is amazing!  Come see and then taste first-hand why every youngster loves dining at our always kid-friendly Northern Italian restaurant, Mia Francesca Trattoria.
