What Makes Northern Italian Cuisine So Popular in the Triangle?

Monday, March 23rd, 2015

http://www.dreamstime.com/royalty-free-stock-photo-coliseum-italian-flag-image7768095The aromas, the ambiance, and the bold, fresh flavors of excellent Italian fare bring people together for the great food and the good times. Here in the Triangle, the perfect place is always nearby, just minutes from everywhere. It’s time to step into Northern Italy and the welcoming doors of Mia Francesca.

Mia Francesca Trattoria’s Tuscany Italian cuisine represents every traditional family value found in the Mother Country of Italy. It is an historic fact that Italian cooking over the centuries has reflected the true spirit of Italian life and culture; the food is both unique and very special. At Mia Francesca, we focus on recipes that remind us of the famous Tuscany Region of Italy; from the small villages in the foothills where our farm to table menu gets its inspiration, to the Italian people themselves; who have helped us create the culinary masterpieces offered by our professional chefs each and every day.

Our Italian food is unpretentious, yet delicious with many or our presentations having only four to eight ingredients. Italian cooking can taste delightful without being complicated or over done with spices and sauces. Our menu has an epicurean elegance based on simplicity, vibrant subtleties, and variety. Our expansive menu always features new dishes as well, often on a daily basis.

In general, Italy is a diverse country boasting an equally diverse cuisine. Italian food is noted for its regional diversity, abundance of taste, and it is probably the most popular in the world, with a multitude of influences abroad. Here in the Triangle at Mia Francesca, Italian cuisine can be enjoyed by everyone, not just people of Italian heritage. Simplistic variety makes the difference.

Our talented kitchen staff, led by our Executive Chef Zach prepares everything with the focus on the quality of the ingredients rather than on elaborate preparation. Italian cooking at Mia Francesca places the highest priority on the use of fresh, seasonal produce which distinguishes the true cuisine of Italy.

Here are just five of our most popular Italian dishes at Mia Francesca Trattoria:

  • Bruschetta alla Romana: garlic toast, marinated tomatoes, mozzarella, and olive oil
  • Caesar Salad: hearts of Romaine, garlic, croutons, shaved Parmigiano, and roasted bell peppers
  • Naplotena Pizza: arugula, cherry tomatoes, garlic, extra virgin olive oil, provolone, and shaved parmesan
  • Spaghetti alla Bolognese: beef, veal, and pork meatballs, fresh herbs, tomato basil sauce, Parmigiano Reggiano
  • Tiramisu: espresso and Kahlua soaked lady fingers with lightly sweetened marscapone cream and cocoa powder

Our Northern Italian cuisine includes some of the most wonderful meals in the Triangle. While Italian cooking may have long been considered mainstream here in the United States, not all local restaurants serve true Italian cuisine. Mia Francesca Trattoria is proud to stay true to our Italian roots. It is what we are each and every day. A great value and a great experience make our rustic Northern Italian restaurant a great place to enjoy time and again.

We always focus on our roots. What was perfected in Italy is brought to the Triangle for each and every guest! Take the moment and walk through our front doors into Northern Italy.

Good Times Always Mushroom Here in the Triangle

Monday, September 8th, 2014

CarpaccioDid you know that the month of September is National Mushroom Month? At Mia Francesca Trattoria in North Hills, our award winning kitchen, led by the reigning local Iron Chef, Zachary Van Gaasbeek places selected farm fresh mushrooms into several of our delicious gourmet Northern Italian meals.

Many guests start out their Tuscany Italian dining experience with our captivating Carpaccio appetizer, featuring thinly sliced sirloin using capers, tomatoes, mushrooms, lemon, olive oil, arugula, endive, radicchio, and Parmigiano. The name of this Italian dish has quite a history, coming about for the first time in Venice around 1950 during a special exhibition for the famous Venetian painter Vittore Carpaccio, who characteristically used red and white tones in his artwork.

Our very popular and palate pleasing Pollo e Pancetta presents pan-seared farm-fresh chicken breasts and roasted potatoes combined with a delicious pancetta mushroom Marsala sauce.

Our savory and unique Salmon Asparagi entrée features fresh grilled salmon, crab, wild mushrooms, asparagus, sundried tomatoes, white wine, garlic, balsamic, and lemon. Our fabulous Fettuccine con Mais offers fresh fettuccine pasta with fresh, local sweet corn, Prosciutto di Parma (dry cured ham), farm fresh mushrooms, cracked black pepper, and shaved Parmigiano Reggiano.

Mushrooms bring such wonderful flavor to a variety of dishes that everyone enjoys. One of our favorites is a Mia Francesca Trattoria classic suggestion that comes with fresh morel mushrooms. These special mushrooms have an intense, nutty, and earthy flavor that is absolutely heavenly when accompanied with our beef entrees. Our full-flavored Filetto con Spugnole is a special blend of grilled beef tenderloin, fresh morel mushrooms, spring onions, potatoes, grilled asparagus, and herb butter.

Because many varieties of mushrooms are cultivated all year round, we continue to place them in an array of new and delicious offerings that please every one of our visitors here in Midtown Raleigh. They are an excellent source of B vitamins and a good source of potassium. Finally, fresh mushrooms are a healthy, low-calorie food eaten cooked, raw, or served as a garnish to decorate a dish and platter. We love the value they bring to our Northern Italian presentations.

With our rustic atmosphere and our great service, Mia Francesca satisfies all of our guests with a true Italian experience. Bring family and friends to North Hills and enjoy the good times together. We are conveniently located, just 20 minutes from anywhere in the Triangle in North Hills, just off 440, adjacent to the landmark Renaissance hotel. If you want the freshest of ingredients, reasonable prices, and a comfortable and unique setting, stop in and visit us here in Midtown Raleigh. Let us take care of you!

Italian Cuisine is Love at First Bite

Monday, July 7th, 2014

Mia FrancescaRomantic Italy is one of the most beautiful countries in the world. Italy’s picturesque seaside villages, breathtaking country sides, lakes, and historic cities are full of gorgeous surroundings and views. While Mia Francesca Trattoria is located in Midtown Raleigh at North Hills, our fine Italian cooking and ambiance transports our guests to an authentic Italian experience that shares the heart of Northern Italy. When they take their first taste, it is love at first bite.

Our trained professional chefs, like our Head Chef Zach, teach that it is all about the quality and freshness of the delicious ingredients that are used. One of our visitor’s favorites is Fagiolini Insalata, with farm-to-table fresh string beans, outstanding onions, and tasty tomatoes. It is delicious as well as in true Italian in green, white, and red colors.

A conversation involving Italian food and culture must always include the love of fine wine. We offer three recommended Italian red wines to enjoy along with a fantastic Mia Francesca meal pairing:

  • Villa Girardi Amarone: produced in the northern Veneto region near Venice pairs well with our Filletto con Patate—grilled beef tenderloin, rosemary potatoes, fennel gratin, and garlic herb butter
  • Chiarlo “Totoniano” Barolo Nebbiolo: made in the Lange Hills of the Piedmont, is a perfect accompaniment to our Shrimp e Piselli Risotto which features Arborio rice, gulf shrimp, spring peas, asparagus, lemon, garlic, basil, and pea shoots
  • Castello Sinnino Chianti Riserva: produced in Tuscany, in central Italy near Florence, is one of the most well-known Italian wines in the world; it pairs nicely with our Spaghetti alla Bolognese which masterfully combines beef, veal, pork, fresh herbs, tomato basil sauce, and Parmigiano Reggiano

At Mia Francesca Trattoria, we do the gourmet Italian cooking so our guests can enjoy the experience right beside their special someone. Now that’s amore! After all, what is better than love at first bite?

Cheers to National Martini Day in the Triangle!

Monday, June 16th, 2014

KEKO64 MartiniIt is hot and balmy this week and it is the perfect time for the perfect drink. Did you know that National Martini Day is Thursday June 19? At Mia Francesca Trattoria, the Northern Italian restaurant of choice in the Triangle, we aim to please with our delicious and relaxing martini selections.

In recent history, some of the most famous martini lovers include John D. Rockefeller, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Winston Churchill, and Frank Sinatra. The fictional British Secret Service Agent James Bond, 007 himself, always asked for his martinis to be “shaken, not stirred”—an enduring movie catch phrase. Interestingly enough, for good health, a shaken martini produces significantly higher antioxidant properties than a stirred one!

In 1863, an Italian vermouth maker started marketing their product under the brand name of Martini. This product is still available today, but better known as Martini & Rossi. We believe the most expensive martini is at the Algonquin Hotel in New York City. It costs a cool $10,000! The garnish is a beautiful and very radiant cut diamond! It is certainly true in this case; a diamond might indeed be a martini lover’s best friend.

A well-made martini is a cocktail made with gin (vodka can be substituted), vermouth, and garnished with an olive or lemon twist. Over the years, the martini has become one of the best-known mixed alcoholic beverages that we serve here in the Triangle. For example, our very popular Pear Tree Martini features Absolut Pear, St. Germaine, and lemon-lime juice that is served straight-up!

Martinis pair very well with our cheeses, breads and meats. Our garlic toast, Bruschetta alla Romana, features marinated tomatoes, mozzarella, and olive oil. It is a perfect choice with your cool drink selection. Another favorite is our Meat and Cheese Board, Chef Zack’s selection of artisan cheese and charcuterie, olives, fruit jam, and ciabatta crostini.

As we quickly head to July, we picture our guests sitting comfortably in our expansive outside patio as the sun sets on a warm summer night. In fact, many of our guests will stop and say that the perfect pairing for one of our delectable martinis is another. Who are we to argue? Our bartenders can create the martini of choice, from the Dirty, to the Gibson, to the Bone Dry. It simple is a matter of personal taste.

Our authentic Tuscany Northern Italian cuisine is a pleasure to enjoy with warm summer breezes. This is why our guests love both the experience and the location. We welcome you to visit and enjoy a wonderful martini with lunch or dinner. Make summer the time to appreciate and enjoy a cool drink served by our skilled mixologists. We aim to please. We firmly believe that every day is a great day to visit Mia Francesca Trattoria. Join us Thursday for National Martini Day.
